Angels of the Knights - Fallon

Summary from Goodreads:
When Fallon Angell died at the age of sixteen, her life changed forever.

The hallowed world of Emperica is everything she had ever hoped for as a mortal—immeasurable beauty, unconditional love and light. But, with affection for humankind still burning within her, she joins the Knight Caste to train as an angel warrior. As a Knight, she will give up her wings and return to the place that killed her to use her unique powers to search out and destroy the evil Kjin that roam the earth. As a Knight, she will stop at nothing to protect the mortals in her care.

The elders warn her that the path she chose will be a solitary one. That she will not have the same bond with humans as she once did. But, as far as she knows, the elders had never met Kade Royce.

When her duties place her in the path of this handsome former cop, emotions buried long ago rise to the surface and she is powerless to ignore the depth of her feelings for this young man. She knows instinctively that she has found what most people search their entire lives for.

Ignoring the risks, she invites him into her world of danger, but soon their lives collide with explosive consequence. As a result, Fallon realizes with heartbreaking despair that she can no longer hide from the painful truth. In order for Kade to live, she must destroy him.

About the Author
Thank you for visiting my Goodread's profile. I am Valerie Zambito, and I live in upstate New York with my husband and three sons. After having been involved in a busy sales career for fifteen years, a great love of world building, character creation, and all things magic led to the publication of my first adult epic fantasy series, ISLAND SHIFTERS, in October of 2011. Since then, I have added two additional books to this series and wrote the first book in a new teen paranormal series called ANGELS OF THE KNIGHTS.

My reading preference is fantasy as well and I devour in copious amounts. In my opinion, there’s nothing like it! Great fantasy grants us entry into a world beyond our own that is filled with adventure, mystery and danger. How exciting to enjoy a front row seat to human struggles of epic proportions. Struggles that tug at our heartstrings and elicit real emotion.

I gravitate to fantasy with heroic elements. I like strong, confident men who never back down from a fight against evil. The kind who will not hesitate to throw himself between a woman and a fire-breathing dragon. I like strong women, too. The kind who will appreciate the offer, but is more inclined to push the man out of the way and take care of the dragon herself. ;)

Will the fates allow Nissa and Levi to be together? And even if they do, will Levi believe Nissa once she reveals the truth?

*MAY CONTAIN SOME SPOILERS*
This book was described as "a contemporary fairy tale", so of course I couldn't wait to dive in. I'm a sucker for that kind of stories, and the gorgeous cover definitely didn't hurt! Seriously, just love it.

And the beginning was quite promising. Nissa decides she wants to be a fairy godmother and her first assignment is a teenage girl named Vicky. Then it got pretty bad.
By bad I mean the story didn't have a soul. Weird thing to say, but it was just empty. I couldn't connect with the story or with the characters.
I'm really having hard time to describe the problem here. It's like someone just tells you "main character named X meets a dude and they look each other. Now they are like feeling the connection and all. They like really fall for each other." Yeah, you can keep telling me that, but that just isn't good enough.
That pretty much describes the love story here. First Nissa meets Levi, drools over him a little, then they're suddenly sleeping together, then they're.. I don't even know what they are. There's absolutely no chemistry between these two characters so how am I suppose to believe they are falling for each other? I have no idea.

There was just this overall emptiness that bothered me so much. I really wanted to give only one cupcake, but I absolutely loved the idea behind this book and the cover, so I had to give two cupcakes.

When Jacey was two, her parents fled the protection of their birthplace, the mystical dimension of Nemele. Leaving was the only solution her parents believed might allow them to keep their family together and alive.

The Adisons have been running from a sect of iniquitous beings from Nemele who covet Jacey. Her parents have repressed their adversaries’ relentless tracking efforts by not utilizing their own mystical powers. They have chosen to conceal themselves within the only realm they knew they’d be able to survive. They are living under their self-imposed powerless sanctions on Earth, which constitutes the nineteenth nation of Nemele.

Her parents have never revealed their true identities to Jacey, consequently keeping her true lineage and unique birthright from her. Jacey’s family has pretended to be non-magical humans as a ploy to prevent an ancient omnipotent entity from killing more innocent beings in its relentless quest to possess Jacey.

Born as an anomaly, Jacey possesses rare abilities that both virtuous and corrupt entities seek to use as their own. Should either side prevail, Jacey may be the saviour or downfall of every world within Nemele’s domains. Blindly thrust into life and death situations, Jacey learns of her true powers within her dreaming and conscious states.

Excerpt

I dropped my bag and took off running, adrenaline causing my legs to move as fast as they would go. I briefly noticed the look of confusion on Vicky’s face as I sped past her, hoping I had put a good distance between myself and the beast.

As my brain began to clear, I registered the laughter coming from behind me. I slowed down and turned, finding Vicky standing a few feet behind me. She was holding the beast and laughing hysterically.

“Be careful,” I shrieked, my limbs shaking, and my breath coming out in spurts. I felt my heart pounding, and I thought I might pass out. I could only remember being this terrified one other time in my life.

When my siblings and I were younger, a few hundred years ago, my brother Finnegan talked us all into going on a grand adventure. We left the protected area of the forest and ended up in an unknown section of the woods. There were humans everywhere. They had large vessels, which were filled with strange smells, and they were burning our precious wood.

I later came to know that this was what the humans called a campground, but at the time, the sights and sounds were terrifying and before we knew what was happening, we heard the loud cry of a large beast that seemed intent on feeding on us. We all scrambled to get away from it, and get back to the protected area where we belonged. My sister, Ella, narrowly escaped its fangs and was saved only by the chain that snapped the threat back into place.

Dogs are extremely dangerous to fairies. The memory flashed through my mind as I stared in horror at the animal in Vicky’s arms.

“Are you being serious?” Vicky asked. “This is a Chihuahua. You can’t honestly be that scared of this dog.”

I knew she was mocking me, but I was too scared to care. Luckily, an older lady came running out of the house on the corner, calling and cooing for her dog. Vicky handed the dog to her and then walked over to where I was bent over, trying to calm myself down and catch my breath.

She was still chuckling when she reached me. “Boy, if I hadn’t seen that for myself, I never would have believed it. There are rats bigger than that dog.”

She must have seen the terrified look in my eyes when our gazes met, because she stopped laughing and reached out to awkwardly pat my arm.

“Hey, I’m sorry I laughed. You’re okay now, the dog is gone.” Another chuckle escaped through her lips and she clapped a hand over her mouth. “Did you say you’re new here?” she asked. “We’d better get to school. The security guard locks up the gate as soon as school begins, and then we’ll be in trouble.”

She handed me my bag, and we started off toward school. “Wow, you sure can run fast,” she said with one last chuckle before she caught herself. “Sorry, I’m Vicky.”

“It’s okay,” I said, finally sounding normal again. “I’m sure I looked pretty funny. I’m Nissa.”

Bad blogger

I've been a lousy blogger, I know. But it's been pretty hectic!
I get up 5.30 AM, take my daughter to daycare, go to work, do some stuff @ work, get my daughter from daycare, go home, start cooking and cleaning and if my hubby is working @ night, also take care of our daughter by myself. Then daughter goes to sleep, and I want to do the same. Oh, but I can't, since someone keeps kicking me nonstop.

Though yesterday evening I spent in horizontal position, since I kept having pretty painful contractions and aren't due until 7th of July! So that's why there haven't been reviews and I haven't even pick the winner of my latest hop. I know, I suck, but I try to be better!

Luckily I'm soon to be unemployed again. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait to stay at home again, at least for a little why. Especially since the place I work in brings people health issues, me included. That's why I've been having all the ear- and sinusinfections. Hopefully those problems are gone soon!
